Backing Up Projects

Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

WireCAD v4.0.1532 added a new function called the Attic. The function of the Attic is to hold items that are old but you might want to use in the future. The Attic is added to each project folder when the project is active in WireCAD and a drawing has been saved, or the program has been unloaded.

WireCAD Attic Folder Structure

Contained in the attic is a file named Attic Settings.ini

The Attic Settings.ini file contains three settings that control the behaviour of the attic.

FileMaxCount=10 Indicates that we will save up to 10 previous versions of any project drawing. Setting this value to 0 indicates that we do not want to use the Attic

BackupProjectDB=1 Indicates that we will save up to 1 previous version(s) of the project database. Setting this value to 0 indicates that we do not want back up the Project Database.

BackupEquipDB=1 Indicates that we will save up to 1 previous version(s) of the global equipment database. Setting this value to 0 indicates that we do not want back up the equipment Database.

When a file is saved to the attic, it is saved with the full filename and a data time suffix as follows: Myfile.DWG~YYMMDDHHMMSS

Restoring from the attic

To restore a drawing from the attic you can use the Revert function on the Project Explorer right-click context menu:

Note: In order to revert to a previous version, the drawing must be closed.

To revert to a previous version of the project or equipment database, you must use the operating system to overwrite the existing versions.

Reverting to a previous drawing does not update the database and may cause inconsistencies.
