New Project
Menu: Project>New Project...
Default Keyboard Shortcut: None.
Function:
WireCAD organizes drawings and cable information on a project basis. WireCAD maintains a separate database for each project. This allows you to have multiple projects or installations. Each project has a separate set of cable numbers and system ID’s.
Each project is organized into a series of folders on your local hard drive or on a network share.
WireCAD version 4 will place three databases in the Project Databases folder:
1. | ProjectDB.MDB -- The project database. Contains all information regarding project systems, cables, drawings, etc. |
2. | dbNetlist.MDB -- This is a database of Netlists or drawing indexes. This database is updated automatically. The data from this is displayed in the Project Explorer. |
3. | dbXlog.MDB -- The transaction log. |
How To: Create a New Project
Starting the command launches the New Project dialog:
Project Name: Enter the name of the project. This must follow file name conventions. We will use it to create a folder name and path on the system. Project Description: enter a description of the project for your own reference. Click <Browse>. Select a path using the Open dialog. The Project Path field will be filled in for you when you click <Open>. Click <Add New> to create the new project folders and databases and creates an entry in the projects database.. |
Do not create a New Project in an existing Project folder! This will make it very difficult to move your projects. |
