Describes the steps needed to migrate from one machine to another.

Assumptions

We will assume the following:

  1. That you have installed WireCAD on the source machine and have created projects, custom equipment in the Global Equipment Library, custom reports, and custom blocks.
  2. That you have installed WireCAD on the target machine.
  3. That the version of WireCAD on the source and target machines are the same.
  4. That you are using VISTADB file based databases.
  5. That you have not added or edited any data in the global database on the target machine.

If the preceding assumptions are not met the following procedures are invalid.

Steps to Migrate

  1. Install and activate WireCAD on the target machine.
  2. Copy your global database on the source machine from  C:\Users\Public\Documents\WireCAD\WireCAD#\WireCADGlobalEquipment.vdb3 to the target machine OVERWRITING the version on the target machine. NOTE: DON'T DO THIS IF YOU HAVE ALREADY ADDED, EDITED or OTHERWISE MODIFIED THE GLOBAL DATABASE ON THE TARGET MACHINE. IF YOU HAVE MODIFIED THE DATABASE ON THE TARGET MACHINE SEE THE TOPIC ON SYNCING DATABASES HERE
  3. Copy all of your project folders to the target machine. You know where they are. We don't so you will have to organize this on your own.
  4. Copy your custom reports, blocks, and template drawings from the source machine. These are typically found in the C:\Users\Public\Documents\WireCAD\WireCAD#\Reports folder and C:\Users\Public\Documents\WireCAD\WireCAD#\Blocks folder. C:\Users\Public\Documents\WireCAD\WireCAD#\Template Drawings. Copy from the source and overwrite the target.
